The chanson is part of the first publication, entirely containing music of young Orlando di Lasso, his „opus 1“, printed in 1555 by Susato in Antwerp. For the next decades this particular chanson as well as other pieces from the same book became an important part of the lute repertory due to the number of arrangements widespread throughout Europe. This particular version is written down by Emanuel Wurstisen somewhere between 1591-94, but its concordances can be found in Theatrum Musicum Longe Amplissimum by Pierre Phalese in 1571.
